It would be fabulous if your home could always smell good! Good smells make you feel relaxed and cozy. If you agree, then you will be delighted to learn about these simple tactics to make your home smell incredible without using air fresheners and fresh flowers!
Get oven-fresh smells in your home without baking.
Do you like the scent of fresh-baked cookies and pies from your kitchen? If yes, then this tip is for you! Pour a teaspoon or two of ground cinnamon and cloves on a baking sheet. Next, leave it inside your oven at 200°F for half an hour and keep the oven door ajar. After a while, your home will be filled with a lovely spicy scent!
Use dryer sheets as homemade air fresheners
Stick dryer sheets (fabrics containing fragrant liquid softeners) to the back of your wardrobe. You can also tuck some of the sheets behind your curtains or under your chairs.
Make your fridge fragrant
Damp a cotton ball with vanilla extract and leave it on a refrigerator shelf to add a pleasantly sweet fragrance. You can also try this trick with fresh lemon juice for a citrus smell!
Put your home food scraps to use
When you dispose of your garbage, you usually cannot avoid the bad smells! Fortunately, you can just toss leftover orange or lemon peels down the drain once a month to keep things smelling fresh.
You can try salt
Dump half a cup of salt into the disposal and turn it on while running cold water. This is because the salt will dislodge the stuck waste and neutralize its odour.
Try a fragrance for your home on your stove.
Add several lemon and orange peels to a cup or two of water, and then let it simmer for a few hours. This will give you an amazing result! You can also try this trick with a handful of cloves. Moreover, this will save you money from buying expensive candles and fragrance diffusers! I always do this one after I finish cooking and cleaning!
Flip a switch for scent in your home.
Turn off your lights until the bulbs are cool. Now place a couple of drops of vanilla extract on your light bulbs. When you flip the lights on, the heat will gently spread the scent and make your home smell like fresh-baked cookies.
Catch fridge drips
Drips from bottles and containers can leave funky-smelling residue on the shelves of your fridge. To keep it contained, leave a plastic lid under each container to act as a coaster and catch the drips. Once they start getting dirty, you can easily toss them in the dishwasher to clean the mess without scrubbing.
Get the odours out of plastic containers
Surprisingly, tomato juice is an ideal solution to remove food smells stuck on plastic containers. You can also use it to clean the foul-smelling plastic compartments of your fridge!
Make your home lemony fresh.
I often put sliced lemons in a dish and place them near my trash can and in my bathroom. This is an amazing tip as it gives your room a fresh lemon scent!
Freshen a freezer failure.
What to do if there is a power cut and the foods in the freezer spoil? Did you know that you can simply place fresh or even used coffee grounds in your freezer overnight to remove bad odours? Simple but efficient, right?
De-stink your garbage
To do this, simply sprinkle some baking soda powder in the bottom of your trash can. Fascinatingly, the soda crystals will neutralize the smell of your kitchen leftovers. However, you should replace the powder every time you take out the trash.
Do not burn the whole candle
You can just light your aromatic candles for a while near linen fabrics that are good for absorbing and retaining scents! So, when you open your door to enter your home next time, you will be embraced by the fragrance of your candle coming from your fabrics! You can then place the scented fabrics in other rooms for similar effects!
Let your vacuum do double-duty cleaning
Soak a cotton ball with your favourite perfume, then drop it into the vacuum cleaner bag. As you do your regular chores, the vacuum will gently release the scent into the room.
Fix a stinky humidifier
When your humidifier starts smelling funky, pour 3 or 4 tablespoons of lemon juice into the water. Not only will it remove the odour, but it will give off a lemony scent. Add more every couple of weeks to stop the stench from coming back.
Get rid of cigarette smells
If you still cannot figure out how to make your home smell good after smoking a cigarette, try to pour white or cider vinegar into a bowl and place it in your room. The vinegar will then neutralize the cigarette’s odour and will make it vanish in less than a day’s time. However, for fresh smoke, you just need to wave around a cloth moistened with vinegar to get rid of the smell.
I adore using these simple but favourable tricks to make my home smell good! This is because it is the only place where I feel safe and comfortable, and it is essential for it to be pleasant when I return from work! If fragrance can only do the job, it is more than enough!
